The updated TWELP 300 bps vocoder (version 5.0) delivers "impressive" voice quality in extremely challenging conditions where voice communication was previously impossible, providing speech quality and intelligibility comparable to that of MELPe at 600 bps, even while operating at half the bit rate.

Although our extensive experience with the ITU-T P.862 utility demonstrates the high reliability of this objective speech quality assessment, we have decided to add speech intelligibility measurements using popular STOI and ESTOI metrics.
Additionally, we removed all non-speech pauses from the ITU-T P50 speech base to eliminate their influence on measurements.

We have significantly improved the speech quality and intelligibility of the TWELP vocoder across all bitrates. The new version (5.0) allows bitrates to be reduced by half compared to well-known standard vocoders. We will update all vocoder-related pages on our website to reflect these changes as soon as possible.
